Design System

As UI Designer my mission was clear: crafting order from chaos

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is an international foundation created in 1956 based in Lisbon, Portugal whose statutory aims to improve people's lives through art, charity, science and education.

During my two-year contract, I focused on solving UI problems for the foundation’s website and its 15 sister pages. I designed new sections and created a design system library.

I worked on innovative UI designs for the foundation’s landing page. However, the lack of a centralized repository for design principles and reusable components made the task complex. After organizing scattered documentation and researching user needs, I improved the landing page UI, emphasizing functionality and consistency.

I also handled a large-scale UI redesign, introducing a new membership section. This involved refining input designs, introducing new components, setting up filters, designing voucher experiences, defining interactions, and improving the search button. My approach included defining user personas and maintaining consistent design patterns.

To address the absence of a component library, I built one in Figma using the Atomic design method. The library was divided into four volumes, and I documented usage guidelines and best practices to empower developers and ensure consistency, create agile prototypes & build new pages efficiently.
